Yes, three barleycorns to make an inch may seem imprecise, but we’ve since standardized the lovable unit. To mark this achievement, we machined it from Invar, a Nickel-Iron alloy so dimensionally stable that its discovery earned the Nobel prize in physics in 1920. Nothing on Earth can come close to its inherent invariability. Accurate to ±0.001”, the Invar Cubic Inch is an indisputably precise reference unit. It’s also just a fun thing to have around.

I am a designer with two studios...ART seeps from my pores....so...i bought two of these little cubes of wonderment to sit on my working table....they are used...not only for a quick measurement...but these actually DO assist me in the visual aspects of creating form and beauty...I can SEE the measurement of an INCH....from a 3D platform.
......this is the PERFECT TOOL....for creating ART.....for a quick measurement...for the VISUAL confirmation that things are in alignment.......etc...etc...and etc.

UM.
This...people....is Way..Way.....Exceptionally Brilliant.
I'm a Designer/Artist whose studio is a space from Peewee Herman's Playhouse....in other words....I have cool stuff.......the usual suspects set the basic 'tones'.....markers...pens...paints...papers...and a phelethoria of Japanese art supplies that make me very happy.

My Invar cube is a great conversation piece. When someone asks about the cube, it opens the door to a technical discussion on materials and thermal expansion. Having a hands-on example helps pique interest for my non-scientific but inquisitive friends.
